Tunnelblick and the GDPR
Europe's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) information:
The Tunnelblick website stores the following "Personal Information", as defined by the GDPR:
No other Personal Information is transmitted to or stored by the Tunnelblick website.
Tunnelblick's downloads are hosted by GitHub. GitHub also logs information; see the GitHub Privacy Statement.
DNS requests for the Tunnelblick website are handled by various DNS servers; these servers also log information. The authoritative DNS servers for the Tunnelblick website are provided by our website host and/or Cloudflare. Because the user or the user's operating system choose what DNS servers to use, further information is not available.
At times the Tunnelblick website is protected from attack by Cloudflare. This protection may be turned on or off without notice. Cloudflare does its own logging of DNS requests and requests to the Tunnelblick website, in addition to any logging done by Tunnelblick's host provider. See What Cloudflare Logs for details.
The Tunnelblick website does not store cookies or other information on the user's computer. However, at times when the Tunnelblick website is being protected by Cloudflare, Cloudflare may store cookies on the user's computer and may retrieve those cookies.
The Tunnelblick application stores information locally on the computer on which it is installed, and may (at the user's option) transmit information to the Tunnelblick website:
The information transmitted to the Tunnelblick website may include (in addition to the IP address) the version of Tunnelblick and the version of macOS which are being used and an indication of the type of update information being requested (stable or beta). (Old versions of Tunnelblick may transmit additional information such as the number and type of CPUs and the amount of memory in the user's computer, and the number of VPN configurations present on the user's computer.)
Manual checks for updates may be avoided by not clicking on the "Check Now" button on the "Preferences" panel of Tunnelblick's "VPN Details" window, which may be accessed by clicking on the Tunnelblick icon in the menu bar, clicking on "VPN Details…", and then clicking on the large "Preferences" button at the top of the window.
Automatic checks (and the associated transmission of information to the Tunnelblick website) may be disabled individually as follows:
Both automatic checks may be disabled, regardless of the state of the above two checkboxes, by adding a check to the "Inhibit automatic update checking and IP address checking" checkbox on the "Preferences" panel of Tunnelblick's "VPN Details" window, which may be accessed by clicking on the Tunnelblick icon in the menu bar, clicking on "VPN Details…", and then clicking on the large "Preferences" button at the top of the window.
