The Console Log

Tunnelblick sometimes outputs detailed diagnostic information to the macOS logs.

If you are having trouble when launching Tunnelblick

If you are having trouble when launching Tunnelblick, the logs can help diagnose the problem.

Proceed as follows for recent versions of macOS:

  1. Quit Tunnelblick if it is running.
  2. Launch /Applications/Utilities/Console.
  3. Click on the name of your computer at the top of the left column.
  4. Type tunnelblick in the search box in the upper right, then press "return". The word "Any" should appear to the left of tunnelblick in the search box.
  5. Click the "Start" button at the top of the Console window.
  6. Launch Tunnelblick.
  7. Wait until the problem occurs.
  8. In Console, click on the "Pause" button (it was the "start" button but changed to "Pause" when you clicked "Start" in step 5).
  9. Click on one of the log entries on the right of the Console window.
  10. Click Edit >> Select All.
  11. Click Edit >> Copy.

Then paste into a reply and send it, or into an empty file and send the file as an attachment.

If you having trouble connecting to a VPN

  1. Launch Tunnelblick and try to connect to the VPN.
  2. Wait until the problem happens, then disconnect the VPN if it is connected.
  3. Click on the Tunnelblick icon in the menu bar, then click "VPN Details…".
  4. Click on the large "Configurations" button at the top of the window.
  5. Click to select the VPN you are trying to connect to in the list on the left side of the window.
  6. Click on the "Copy Console Log to Clipboard" button.

Then paste into a reply and send it, or into an empty file and send the file as an attachment.

If you having trouble doing something else in Tunnelblick

  1. Launch /Applications/Utilities/Console.
  2. Click on the name of your computer at the top of the left column.
